BRIDGING THE GAP BETWEEN TEENAGE GIRLS AND THEIR DREAMS
We want to see every girl living her truest purpose at her highest potential so we work to connect girls to mentors who will guide them to achieve their dreams.
Why Girls
There have been significant strides made in Ghana and around the globe with regards to girls education, empowerment and professional advancement. However, a great number of girls are still at a level lower than expected. Many younger girls still have no idea how professional women are breaking the glass ceiling and penetrating into spaces that women were previously not seen in.
The teenage years are some of the most confusing years of a girl’s life and she needs other women who have walked that path successfully to lead her through. During these transitional periods in the lives of girls when they begin to question their individual identities, a mentoring program like this can step in and provide all the resources they need to explore their strengths while working through areas of growth.
Our program gives girls the safe space to share and grow, allowing mentors the opportunity to affirm their uniqueness. By having a girls only session, girls are allowed to create positive relationships with others, engage freely with female role models and confidently ask for the support they need. Girls only spaces can create space for discussion that encourages girls to question stereotypes, talk about bullying and speak up against oppression with their peers. This creates a platform where girls can build skills and confidence needed to challenge oppression for themselves and others.
Why We Exist
Girls with higher motivation, confidence, connectedness and performance are more likely to stay in school and proceed to the next level of educational journey. They are more likely to seek support from their network in times of challenges therefore reducing their risk of dropping out of school or engaging in self-destructive behaviours. Against this background, BeBetter Mentorship Program is designed as a tool to minimize effects of the socio-cultural, economic and systemic challenges hindering the progress of initiatives backing girls education in Ghana.
